Assessment

The purpose of the assessment is for our company to get a snap shot of community life in the targeted area. From the perspective of community mobilization the assessment is to establish a common definition of the youth gang problem in the particular area or jurisdiction and to begin to process of shared community/agency responsibility for the understanding of the problem and develop resources needed to address it.

We provided one of Three types of assessment activities

        First

An assessment which collect and analyzes meaningful data on gang crimes from various official and non-official sources.

       Second

An assessment or community resource analysis, which focuses not only on what law enforcement is or is not doing but on a variety of community responses to questions and needs. This assessment speaks to what the community and other agencies can do collaboratively to address the gang problem.

         Third

This type of assessment is based on continued observation of the targeted area. It requires the evaluator's to:

      ·        Walk the area

·        Ride the area

·        Observe the area at night, doing the day and evening

·        Observe the targeted area doing adverse weather conditions

(Noting graffiti, law enforcement, liquor stores, churches, youth, and the

      overall community.)

 Types of Gang Problems

  1. No problem
  2. Emerging Gang Problem
  3. Chronic Gang Problem
